We are excited to share our recent Nature Communications paper (link to the paper), “Deterministic formation of carbon-functionalized quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride.” In this work, we demonstrate a simple and scalable nanoindentation-based approach to deterministically create high-quality single-photon emitters at predefined locations in hBN, with clear evidence that carbon incorporation is the microscopic origin of the emission. This method enables wafer-scale arrays of quantum emitters in a single fabrication step and provides a powerful platform for systematically engineering and understanding quantum emitters in 2D materials—opening new opportunities for integrated quantum photonics, sensing, and quantum information technologies.
